Are We Getting a Velociraptor Themed Rollercoaster in Florida?!

Universal Studios Islands of Adventure is one of my favorite theme parks in the world. Dare I say that I actually enjoy it more than I enjoy any of the Disney theme parks in Florida (don’t @ me). With The Incredible Hulk Coaster and Hagrid’s Motorbike coaster already thrilling park’s guest, the park has secretly been working on a new rollercoaster that may be one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever seen – a roller coaster themed to the velociraptors from the Jurassic World movies… HOLY CRAP!

Today, we explore this unannounced roller coaster that is currently under construction, and what you should expect once they decide to announce this monster of a ride!

THE NOT-SO-SECRET TRADEMARK

Let’s go back in time, specifically July 24, 2019. On this date, a trademark was filed for something called “VELOCICOASTER”. When filed, it was stated that the trademark was for use “in the nature of an amusement park ride.”

From that point forward, coaster junkies began speculating that the new construction area (which is going on right next to the Jurassic Park Discovery Center in the park), was for a new coaster themed to the velociraptors from the recent Jurassic World films starring Chris Pratt.

If true, this new coaster would dramatically alter the skyline at Island of Adventure, boasting a new, one-of-a-kind roller coaster that is sure to be considered one of the best in the state, if not the country.

POPULAR RUMORS THAT I HOPE ARE TRUE!

There are a lot of rumors circling this new attraction. Here are some of the ones I really hope are true:

  • The Jurassic Park Discovery Center will be renovated to fit the new Jurassic World theme in the area.
  • The roller coaster will feature a series of show “scenes” (starring Chris Pratt himself) that will take place before the coater launches into some of the most complex twists and turns and inversions we’ve seen on a roller coaster.
  • These twists and turns and inversions will be heavily themed with multiple close calls and water features, including a top-hat element in which the coaster will intentionally stall at the top, giving the riders a unique view of the park.
  • The ride may reach a top speed of 70 miles per hour.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Universal Studios Islands of Adventure may be taking the same slow burn approach that they took with their Hagrid themed roller coaster. While everybody and their mom knew a roller coaster was being built, the park didn’t announce a single thing until much later in the construction process. It proved to be a smart move, as the park ended up building a heightened anticipation as a result.

I don’t see why they’d do this any different.

There have been no official announcements made, but we’d expect one later this year. Currently there is an expectation that the ride will be ready to open by late-2020.

A VIRTUAL RIDE

Let me preface this by saying that this is NOT AN OFFICIAL RENDERING OF THE RIDE. However, it is a pretty darn good representation of what the ride might be based off of what we know, the current footers, and our basic intuition. Take a ride!

EXCITED?!

So what do you think?! Are you excited?! I know I am! I cannot wait to give this one a spin when it opens! This will definitely be something special.
