Black Mental Health Role Models

Saturday, September 24, 2022

When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, the only black men that I had to look up to were my father, athletes, and hip hop artists. None of them spoke openly about mental health. So as a result, mental health was never a priority for me. I didn’t know that it was even something I had to think about.

Flash forward 35 years and it’s all that I talk about. It’s the most important thing in my life. And as I go through my days talking about mental health, all I think about is the chance that there’s a little black boy out there, a kid that was just like me, potentially watching my videos and being like, “OMG I thought I was the only one.” The chance that I might help a little black boy improve their mental health in some fashion, keeps me going. 🥰

I’m sitting here currently, cuddling with my cats, huge smile on my face, because I finally figured out a purpose. I found another reason to keep going. I’m a lucky man, and if my mental health journey can help at least one person today… it’ll all be worth it. ✌🏾🔆

Much love. Good vibes.
