1 – You Feel Trapped Because You Feel Like Everyone Else is Better Than You

Do yourself a favor and stop unfairly comparing yourself to your colleagues and/or other people in your profession. The only thing those comparisons do is make you feel worse.

If you continue to see others as “more skilled than you”, “smarter than you”, “better than you”, “more interesting than you”, etc… then you’ll paint yourself in a corner. You’ll end up feeling trapped in that corner feeling like you’ll never be “as good as them”.

Some people are great at what they do. Some people are not. Comparing yourself to either of them is incredibly redundant. Just walk into work not only feeling confident in your ability to perform, but in your ability to learn and become better.

The best tool you have in life is the ability to learn and grow.

2 – You Feel Trapped Because You’re Playing the “Wait & See” Game

Be careful playing this game. Purposely staying where you are and waiting for that big raise or that deserved promotion is nice as long as it is part of a larger strategy for you and your career. Yes, sometimes staying patient now may pay off in the long run for you.

Otherwise? Don’t waste your time. The more and more you wait, the farther into this trapped feeling you will go. Tread carefully and always think of the long haul.

Always remember: your choice to stay is based off of what means the most to you. It should not be based off your fear of what would happen if you decided to leave.

3 – You Feel Trapped Because You Always Feel Like You Have Something to Prove

Yes… climbing your way up the ladder is really hard. It takes working overtime, learning from your mistakes, and quite often just going with your gut, especially when you’re not 100% sure if something will work.

Honestly, you don’t have to prove a damn thing. Keep your mind and body open to always doing the best that you can do. If that leads you success where you currently work, then great. If it doesn’t, then perhaps you it’s time to start looking elsewhere for work.
