ADHD Unraveled: Unpacking the 3 Types of ADHD

Would you rather listen than read?! Check out the latest episode of my podcast instead!

Hey there, Vibers! Ever played the game where you’re trying to fit the square block into the round hole, only to realize there’s another shape entirely? That’s a bit how I felt learning about ADHD.

What’s the Buzz About ADHD?

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a mental health condition affecting emotions, behaviors, and our ability to slurp up new info like a delicious smoothie. So, what does that look like? Picture the energetic kid who can’t sit still in class, or the daydreamer gazing out the window. But let’s get more detailed!

Are There Different Types of ADHD?

You betcha! ADHD has three main flavors:

  1. Inattentive type: Your classic daydreamer.
  2. Hyperactive-impulsive type: The always-on-the-move energizer bunny.
  3. Combined type: A delightful mix of the two!

These types are defined by their symptoms – inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. But remember, every person is unique, and symptoms manifest differently for everyone. Let’s dive in, shall we?

ADHD

What’s the Scoop on Inattentive Type?

Think Dory from “Finding Nemo.” Easily distracted, tends to forget things, but oh-so-lovable. If this is your jam, you might find organizing thoughts tricky or often misplace your belongings. Ever been told you’re in your own world? Welcome to the club!

What About Hyperactive-Impulsive Type?

Imagine a super-charged sports car that just can’t stay in the garage! People with this type may be restless, talkative, and, at times, interrupt others without realizing. They’re full of energy and sometimes find it hard to engage in quiet activities.

And the Combined Type?

If you’re a bit of column A and a bit of column B, then you’re sailing on the combined type boat. It’s where symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity dance together in a dynamic tango.

So, What’s My Personal ADHD Tale?

I got diagnosed with Combination Type ADHD just last year when I was 35. Talk about a late bloomer, right? To say it was an “Aha!” moment would be an understatement. It felt like someone handed me a pair of glasses, and I suddenly saw the world in HD. It’s been a wild ride, sometimes bumpy, other times exhilarating. But most importantly, it’s been enlightening.

What Causes ADHD?

The $1 million question! While some say it’s too much TV or sugar (thanks, grandma), science isn’t on board with that. Genetics seems to play a starring role, but other factors like brain injuries, toxins, and premature birth are under the spotlight too.

How Do They Diagnose This?

Ah, the mysterious realm of diagnosis. It’s a bit like solving a puzzle – no single test, but a range of criteria based on behavior and impact on daily life. Also, guess what? Symptoms can evolve, so you might get re-evaluated as you grow.

Treatments: What’s on the Menu?

From therapy sessions that give you a toolbox of coping mechanisms to medications that tweak brain chemistry for focus, the treatment buffet is vast. It’s all about finding what makes your mental health taste buds sing.

Can We Prevent ADHD?

Straight answer? Nope. Not really. Remember, ADHD isn’t about prevention; it’s about understanding and adapting.

Final Thoughts?

Every ADHD journey is unique. It can be a whirlwind, but with awareness, humor (a big dose of it), and a fabulous community like you Vibers, it becomes a journey of discovery and growth. Till next time, keep shining and remember, your vibe attracts your tribe!

Much love. Good vibes.
